The focus of the Annual Report 2020 is on selected research results from all fields of activity of the BASt. Among the topics are for example the re-evaluation of the alcohol ban for novice drivers, the effectiveness of emergency braking systems for trucks or risk factors in motorbike traffic. ‘Talking’ workplaces will be discussed as well as the communication of automated vehicles with non-automated road users and airbag safety systems for cyclists. The traffic barometer shows how traffic developed during the Corona pandemic. Also presented are technical developments to avoid road closures, the RITUN guide for resilient road tunnels, concrete roadway 4.0, how occupational safety demands and promotes innovation, and cross-national research cooperation in road construction. Results on safe rural roads through suitable protective devices, on the use of digital technologies in engineering structures, on sustainable innovative replacement of concrete bridges as well as BASt activities in the BMVI Network of Experts are also presented.
