N2  - Insgesamt hat sich die Sicherungsquote erwachsener Pkw-Insassen mit 98 Prozent im Jahr 2009 leicht verbessert (2008: 97 Prozent). Kinder ab sechs Jahren waren im Jahr 2009 deutlich besser gesichert als im Vorjahr. Auf Innerortsstraßen lag die Benutzung von Kindersitzen in dieser Altersgruppe bei 72 Prozent (2008: 58 Prozent), auf Landstraßen ebenfalls bei 72 Prozent (2008: 63 Prozent). Die Verwendung von Kinderrückhaltesystemen in der Altersgruppe bis 5 Jahre hat sich auf Landstraßen von 98 auf 95 Prozent und im Innerortsverkehr von 97 auf 94 Prozent verschlechtert. Im Jahr 2009 trugen 98 Prozent der Fahrer und 100 Prozent der Mitfahrer motorisierter Zweiräder einen Schutzhelm. 18 Prozent aller motorisierten Zweiradfahrer trugen eine komplette Schutzkleidung (2008: 19 Prozent). Im Jahr 2009 trugen 11 Prozent der Fahrradfahrer einen Schutzhelm (2008: 10 Prozent), in der Gruppe der bis zehn Jahre betrug die Quote 56 Prozent (2008: 55 Prozent). Im Güterkraftverkehr hat sich das Sicherungsverhalten für alle beobachteten Kollektive deutlich verbessert, erreicht jedoch noch nicht das Niveau der Gurtnutzung von Pkw-Insassen.
N2  - The seat belt wearing rates of adult car occupants increased in 2009 from 97 percent to 98 percent. The use of child restraint systems clearly changed for the better especially for children from the age of six years upwards. In 2009, 72 percent children in this age group used an appropriate restraint system on rural roads (2008: 63 percent) and the same percentage holds true for built-up area roads (2008: 58 percent). In the group of children up to the age of five, the use of a safety seat decreased to 95 percent on rural roads (2008: 98 percent) and to 94 percent on built-up area roads (2008:97 percent). 98 percent of the motorised two-wheel drivers and 100 percent of the passengers wore safety helmets. 18 percent of the drivers and of the passengers wore complete motorcycle clothing when using two-wheeled motorcycles. In the age group of up to ten years helmet wearing when using a bicycle increased by one percent point to 56 percent in 2009. Although increasing since years, wearing bicycle helmets is still rare over all age groups (11 percent). In 2009, 82 percent of all lorry drivers used a seat belt (2008: 72 percent). However, seat belt wearing rates of truck drivers are still lower than those of car occupants.
