N2  - Die Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen (BASt) ist ein technisch-wissenschaftliches Forschungsinstitut des Bundesministeriums für Verkehr, Bau- und Wohnungswesen. Ihr Tätigkeitsspektrum umfasst schwerpunktmäßig angewandte und praxisnahe Forschung, die interdisziplinärer und immer stärker international angelegt ist, sowie Prüfungen, Zertifizierungen und Akkreditierungen und Beratungs- und Gutachtertätigkeiten in den Aufgabengebieten Straßenbautechnik, Brücken- und Ingenieurbau, Straßenverkehrstechnik, Fahrzeugtechnik, Verhalten und Sicherheit im Verkehr. Im Jahresbericht 2004 wird anhand ausgewählter Beispiele aufgezeigt, an welchen aktuellen Fragestellungen die BASt arbeitet. Die Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen beschäftigte in 2004 über 400 Mitarbeiter.
N2  - The annual report of the Federal Highway Research Institute gives an overview of the BASt- main areas of work in 2004. It not only gives fundamental information on the BASt, but also presents 35 projects from the BASt- five research divisions: "highway construction technology", "bridges and structural technology", "traffic engineering", "automotive engineering" and "behaviour and safety in highway traffic". The BASt- remit also includes assessing the quality of services and products. The accreditations, tests, certifications, approvals and admissions carried out in this regard are presented in tabular form. The annual report is rounded off with the activities in the area of public relations and international co-operation, a compilation of the databases and data pools, some of which were developed, and are maintained, in the BASt, and with figures and facts from 2004.
