N2 - The durability design of new structures is currently standardized via prescriptive rules by assignment of exposure classes. Each exposure class requires other prerequisites regarding concrete composition and concrete cover. Theses minimum requirements in the standards shall ensure a service life of about 50 years with respect to common repair conditions for structures exposed to chlorides or carbonation. However, nowadays the full-probabilistic models are available to estimate the time to corrosion initiation for chloride-induced and carbonationinduced reinforcement corrosion. These models can support the durability design for new structures. The objective of the research study is the investigation of the influence of the model input parameters on the probabilistic service life prediction of reinforced concrete bridges from federal highways with regard to carbonation and chloride ingress. Parts of the study are sensitivity and dominance analyses which show the influence of the model input parameters on the model outcome. Design situations of each exposure class (XD and XC) are defined with regard to the prescriptive design rules and the corresponding reliability index is calculated based on the full-probabilistic models. The aim of the design situations was to cover the most favorable (weak stresses – great material resistances) and as well the most unfavorable (high stresses – low materials resistances) combination of loading conditions which are in accordance to the common standards. The results show that the reliability spectrum calculated based on the full-probabilistic models can cover a broad range within one exposure class such as XC and XD. The calculated reliability index can be lower than the commonly striven target reliability and can also be much higher than the target reliability. The reliability spectra based from the design situations cannot be used to derive reliability information for an existing structure. Therefore, inspection data are required. The prerequisite for the application of full-probabilistic models for existing structures places high demands on inspection quality and quantity.
